Susanna Frohman
Case Manager
Susanna Frohman is an award-winning professional photojournalist who helps people tell their stories. She grew up in Tennessee and has a Master’s Degree in Visual Communications from Ohio University and an undergraduate degree from Indiana University. Susanna has worked at Serenity Knolls since April 2023 in the roles of Counselor I, Admissions Coordinator, and now as a Case Manager.
Susanna’s commitment to helping people in recovery lies in her personal experience with the impact of addiction on individuals and family systems. Previously, Susanna worked for a decade as a staff photographer at both the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Jose Mercury News, and on contract for the National Geographic Society’s Photo Camp. In addition to working on the frontlines of daily journalism, she led teams of professional journalists in helping under-resourced youth nationwide express themselves creatively in empowering ways. It was in this career that Susanna learned to work with people from all walks of life, helping them share their true, inspiring, and sometimes tragic stories with others, with the goal of both empowering and honoring people and fostering a greater understanding of how social issues affect us and the world in which we live.
Susanna has a passion for helping people in residential treatment find empowering ways to share their stories with others in the service of healing. In her role as Case Manager, Susanna supports clients to embody sobriety skills that build a strong foundation for maintaining sobriety after discharge from treatment. Susanna is currently pursuing a second Master’s Degree, this time in psychology. When she is not working, she helps restore habitat for endangered salmon in Northern California and volunteers for Youth Transforming Justice, a restorative justice organization that supports youth in San Rafael, CA.
