Paul Marra, MA, LMFT
Therapist
Paul joined Serenity Knolls in October of 2022. He began his career in behavioral medicine at The Caron Foundation in Pennsylvania and later relocated to the Bay Area to work for The Camp Recovery Center. Inspired by this rewarding career and his own recovery, Paul resolved to follow his dream of becoming a licensed therapist. Paul attended graduate school and received his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology in 2006. Following graduation, he began working as a therapist at Kaiser SF Psychiatry with individuals, teens, families, and couples from diverse backgrounds struggling with issues related to addiction, mental illness and codependency. It was here that Paul began his training as a trauma-informed therapist as well. He found it rewarding to be able to support his patients and affect real change in their lives.
In 2009, after completing his supervised training at Kaiser, Paul became a LMFT and started a small private practice in Marin County. He worked as both a staff therapist and a consultant for numerous partial hospital and outpatient programs in the Bay Area, including the Mill Street Shelter and Marin County Behavioral Health Services, where he worked with individuals struggling with homelessness, severe mental illness, trauma and addiction.
During the COVID pandemic, Paul maintained a small private practice, but realized how much he missed connecting in-person with clients and colleagues. After being contacted by Serenity Knolls, touring the facility, and meeting the talented staff, Paul accepted their offer as therapist. He now treats clients not only struggling with addiction, but also mood disorders, trauma, and codependency. Being able to work with a program that fits his approach to treatment, as well as encourages respect, compassion and warmth in a supportive environment, has been a dream come true.
