Seamus O’Connor, LMFT

Aftercare Therapist

Seamus O’Connor is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Certified Life Coach. He has been in practice as a psychotherapist in California for more than 30 years and maintains an active practice and consultancy based in Southern California. He has facilitated groups at Serenity Knolls for over 19 years.

His psychotherapy practice focuses on mental health concerns arising from relational and professional challenges such as: Stress, Anxiety, and Addictive Disorders.

As a Clinical Member of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), he meets and exceeds the professional and ethical standards as set forth by his peers and professional licensing board.

Seamus’ focus in his lectures is to introduce the idea of recovery from SUD as an opportunity for the healing and flourishing of the whole person rather than just trying to “fix” the negative life symptoms produced through chronic substance use.

In his lectures, Seamus introduces the idea that a person in recovery has the opportunity to begin a courageous exploration  into aspects of themselves that have been hidden behind a “false self”; a mask that has enabled them to survive their formative years but may now be constricting their mature adulthood. Seamus blends his extensive experience with CBT as well as the 12 step model of recovery to introduce the possibility that hidden within each person lies one’s authentic creative energy pent up, just waiting to be recovered.
