Chemical dependency affects not only the person who is addicted, but it impacts the lives of everyone who is close to the substance abuser. The Serenity Knolls family program was created for spouses, friends and adult and adolescent children or any significant other involved with the recovering person. This program takes place each weekend to assist both the person in primary recovery and the family to adjust to this new way of living. Each Saturday is a different group for all to participate in.
For family and friends, a shuttle service is provided from the San Geronimo Cultural Center in San Geronimo beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please call 415-488-0400 for more information.
Partners in Recovery is a group formed at Serenity Knolls for spouses, friends, adult children or any other significant other involved with a recovering person. Partners in Recovery gives information about chemical dependency to help you regain your own perspective and step out from the shadow of the chemically dependent person. At Partners in Recovery, you will learn about: The Roller Coaster, The First Step, You Own Denial, Feelings, Family Rules, Shame and Grief, Responding to the Disease, What I Can Do, and Taking Action.

Family Series are groups featuring lectures by Serenity Knolls Director, Mike Neustadt, and educational material presented by DVDs. Family Circle is a psychologist-led group involving voluntary family participation to process family issues alongside visiting family members and residents.
This is an education and support group for children of substance abusers.
This group gives teenagers an opportunity to talk about their experiences and feelings and gain a better understanding of addiction, recovery, and how they are affected by their parent's use. By participating in a group, teens will learn of their peers' experiences, opening the door for communication and support. Group topics will include definitions and descriptions of addiction, relapse, family roles, traits of being a child of an addict, boundaries, codependence, and self care.
