28 days is a short period of time to contradict years of coping with life using and drugs and alcohol. We believe it is imperative to follow treatment with an aftercare plan that includes connection to the support group created at Serenity Knolls. Our aftercare meets in Marin County and in San Francisco once a week. After completing treatment, all clients are asked to make the commitment to attend aftercare for a minimum of 6 months. Many former residents come to aftercare for years and this group becomes the foundation of their continued recovery. Some come back once a year to celebrate another year of sobriety and share their experience, strength and hope with the newly sober.

Sobriety is meant to be enjoyed and we believe in having fun! Our alumni group is a vibrant and happy one and Serenity Knolls provides many opportunities for our alumni to stay involved with one another and connected to the place where they began a new life. Each year a variety of activities are planned including an alumni picnic, a trip to Hawaii, and several retreats. We also have wonderful events at each holiday to which all alumni and their families are invited.

As giving back is part of the program of recovery, we have a large and very busy group of volunteer alumni who donate their time and energy to the Knolls in various ways throughout the year.
